Every artist must first draw inspiration from their own history and culture. Pare was created during a very dark period of my life. It became a work that nurtured, embraced, and helped restore me, reflecting the warm, maternal, colourful, and compassionate culture of this land.

It is no coincidence that the dark male figure is enveloped by a female form, or that he rests against her bosom. Sometimes, the simplest forms can evoke the deepest emotions and thoughts. Pare is one such work for me, and the piece I hold most dear in my collection.
